Almost Remembered

I find it in the space between;
not seen with eyes
nor touched by hand

this quiet command
almost remembered..

I find it in the face of love;
the grace concealed
now shining through

with all we knew
almost remembered.

Real Time

Can I share
a simple
moment's grace..

the essence
of your face..

feel a presence
close to mine

in real time..

this souless
virtual space.

Poem & Painting by Mairi

The hysteria about the outage of some Social Media yesterday, brought to mind the above poem. I wrote it last year during one of the prolonged ‘lockdowns’ we had here in Scotland.

Social Media and Virtual Meetings can never be a substitute for real human interaction, and real human touch. Let’s never lose sight of our need for physical connections, and the giving and receiving of actual physical acts of loving kindness. Social Media can create amplified and inauthentic caring, and a sense of self goodness… at the simple touch of a button.

The truth
is always there
universal and eternal..

a fleeting glimpse
without a sound;
a sudden flash
pounding you

shaking you

the truth
is always there..

or revealed.

Artwork - Flammarion engraving

I’ve always been intrigued by the Flammarion engraving above, and the mystery behind it. There are several theories about its origin and meaning, but nothing conclusive has ever really been established.

For me personally, I like to think of it as someone breaking through the illusion of existence after a long journey…and some kind of long searched for truth being revealed.

Deeply Me

I wrote this poem a few years ago…when I remembered who I am, and fearlessly embraced the changes that were happening to me and around me. I still forget who I am from time to time, as I pass through the circles of change; some repeating themselves until I understand their meaning and let go. It’s a very short poem…only 15 words…delivered to me from the Universe to remind me that I’m ‘Light and Free’…always.

I'm dancing
with destiny..

and free..

all that I am..

Be Still..

These beautiful words by T.S. Eliot always speak directly to my soul, and bring me stillness and peace when I find myself fighting against myself and the Universe; in vain attempts to control situations. I particulary gain comfort from the line ‘Wait without thought, for you are not ready for thought’. Such a beautiful truth 💙

I said to my soul, be still, and wait without hope
For hope would be hope for the wrong thing; wait without love,
For love would be love of the wrong thing; there is yet faith
But the faith and the love and the hope are all in the waiting.
Wait without thought, for you are not ready for thought:
So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing.

Wounded Healer

I’ve been thinking about emotional wounds…those we experience and those we cause in others. I’ve been looking at the physical scars on my body…some from small injuries; some from deep surgery. Physical wounds always fade with time, and the superficial ones disappear completely. Others…the deeper ones, never completely fade and will be with us for life. Maybe wounds to our soul are like that too. Maybe those very deep ones just have to be loved for what they are… in acceptance of the fact that the scars will be with us always.

I wrote this poem several years ago, prompted by the concept of the Wounded healer; a term used by psychologist Carl Jung to describe the use of our own wounds in the healing of others.

It's only
in the giving
of a grateful
fractured heart..

that joy will come from living
and sorrows can depart..

for you're
a wounded healer
whose essence
will transcend..

restoring and renewing
before this journey's end.
